Different Ways to Get Qualified

See Your Options Below

Option 1

Registered appretices (unfunded)

This option is usually actioned by dealerships or workplaces that employ and register their employees as apprentices.

Duration: 4 years

Learners are registered by the company and are bound by a contract. They complete level-based training through a registered training provider.

This option is generally inaccessible to the public. A candidate must be employed and contracted by a workplace to pursue this route.

There is no ARPL assessment for this pathway. Instead, candidates are required to have a valid employment contract, a registration number from a SETA, and a relevant service letter from the employer in order to qualify for a trade test.

In-centre training takes approximately 6 months, spread over 3 years, to complete all modules.

Option 2

Registered apprentices (funded)

A funded apprenticeship is one where a SETA, government, or another institution provides funding to place learners into an apprenticeship programme. This includes in-centre training, workshop experience, and trade testing.

Duration: 3 years

Learners are registered and receive a registration number. They do not undergo an ARPL, but they are required to log hours in a logbook to qualify for trade testing.

This option is open to the public and is made available when funding becomes accessible. However, funding is not consistent and is not guaranteed.

Eligibility: Individuals aged 18–35

In-centre training takes approximately 6 months, spread over 3 years, to complete all modules.
